A Romantic Valentine’s Day Dinner For Two

A Romantic Valentine’s Day Dinner For Two

A Romantic Valentine’s Day Dinner For Two

Valentine’s Day, also known as St. Valentine’s Day, has been a day for nurturing romance since the 14th century. Every year on February the 14th, lovers, friends and family express their love for one another by exchanging gifts, cards, and little treats. This holiday is especially popular amongst couples and we think a great way to celebrate is by planning a romantic suite decor and/or a private dinner for two. Below are a few ideas to get you thinking about planning a romantic dinner with your loved one with your own personal style!

The Dinner Menu

Cooking for a romantic private dinner is not an easy task so it’s important to have your menu prepared beforehand. Your dinner should include a special Valentine’s Day drink, an appetizer, a main course, and of course, the most important part of the evening, dessert! Here are some delicious ideas for your menu:

Drinks

What would the international day of love be without a toast to you and your loved one!? For wine lovers, we suggest rose or red wine (we like Agiorgitiko, a red variety from southern Greece). To make things extra special and festive, gather your ingredients and whip up one of these fancy cocktails like the Blushing Geisha or the Red Lotus.

Appetizers

To stimulate your appetite we recommend a shrimp cocktail served in a martini glass, asparagus wrapped in prosciutto, or grilled figs served with goat cheese and a splash of balsamic vinaigrette.

Main Course

You can’t go wrong with classics like roasted chicken and vegetables or a beef wellington. Of course, if your partner is a vegetarian, spinach and mushroom ravioli is an excellent option as well.

If you prefer not to cook, ordering food from your favorite restaurant or arranging for a chef to create something exceptional and personalized is always a great way to make things a bit easier for yourself. To add a unique personal touch, handwrite your menu so your partner knows what to expect for the evening.

Dessert

Chocolate covered strawberries are always a hit, but we prefer a chocolate cheesecake or a raspberry tart to end the evening on a high note! Do make sure you pick a dessert that you know your partner will absolutely love. After all, Valentine’s Day is all about sweetness!

Setting the Mood

Part of making any type of celebration special and romantic is setting the mood for it. Candlelight is one of the most popular symbols of romance so make sure to place candles everywhere! You can also hang a few strings of fairy lights – which is always an incredibly romantic lighting option. For the dinner table, be sure to have a bouquet of your partner’s favorite flowers, along with your best plates, silverware, wine glasses, and fabric napkins. Music is also a great way to show your special someone that you care about them so make sure that there is a romantic playlist on in the background!

Exchanging Gifts

It is very common for couples to exchange gifts on Valentine’s Day, but it doesn’t have to be anything extravagant or expensive, as long as it’s from the heart. A nice card with a note telling your partner how much you care for them will definitely be memorable and put a smile on their face. You can also find or buy a picture frame and put your favorite picture of the both of you inside; this way, your partner will have something to remember you by on this special day.

As this evening is just about the two of you, enjoy and relax in each other’s company. Turn off your devices and be present in the moment. Undistracted, you can really appreciate this wonderful person in your life and share a romantic evening, just the two of you!

Besides the magic of the holidays and the passion surrounding Valentine’s day, freshly fallen snow, beautifully lit fireplaces, and snuggling under the blanket are all reasons that make winter a truly romantic season! Winter is full of great opportunities to propose to your other half!

And now you’re thinking, how can I make this moment extra special? By planning a dreamlike luxury destination proposal in Greece, of course! Although Greece is typically thought of as the ultimate summer destination, thanks to its exceptional Mediterranean climate and glorious sunshine, Greece is a wonderful destination all year around. Although you may not be able to swim at the beach during the winter, there are so many exceptional destinations just perfect for popping the question! Here are some of our favorites:

Monemvasia

This uniquely preserved medieval castle town is an ideal romantic hideaway. A magical place, distinguished by charming wildness, rich history, and profound romanticism, Monemvasia will take you on a journey through time. Vaulted alleys, noble mansions, and, of course, the legendary castle, all contribute to its fairytale atmosphere. As you stroll along the dimly lit cobbled paths, bend down on one knee and ask your partner to marry you against the backdrop of the glistening sea. Given the town’s mystical allure, a glorious ‘Yes!’ will be the answer you receive.

Arachova

Nestled on Mount Parnassos, and exuding a distinct cosmopolitan charm, Arachova is one of Greece’s most popular winter destinations. A bustling mountain resort town, it is a perfect destination for those who appreciate old-world charm, but also numerous winter sports facilities! Opt for the ski slopes for a more adventurous wedding proposal or a wooden chalet if you prefer something more intimate and cozy. After all, there is nothing more romantic than cuddling up together beside the fireplace with a steaming hot mug of cocoa or your favorite bottle of champagne!

Meteora

Majestic and dramatic, inspiring a sense of spiritual fascination, Meteora is one of those places that leaves a mark on you. Surreal landscapes, overwhelming rock formations, and gorgeous monasteries perched on the edge of sharp cliffs make Meteora a breathtaking sight. During winter, the landscape turns into a snow-covered wonderland, just perfect for a winter wedding proposal. If you and your special someone are outdoorsy types, then there’s no better way to propose than along one of Meteora’s impressive hiking trails!

Zagorohoria

Beyond the Pindus Mountains in northwestern Greece lies the magical region of Zagorohoria. This cluster of 46 stone villages conceals the beauty of master craftsmanship and the luxury of time that somehow seems to stop here. Snow-capped peaks of the massive mountains, virgin forests, and impressive gorges compose the area’s wild landscape. Numerous villages and many winter sports and adventures await you in Zagorohoria, including rafting, canyoning, and horse riding, all providing a perfect setting for a winter wedding proposal in Greece.

An Authentically Greek Christmas Dinner

An Authentically Greek Christmas Dinner

An Authentically Greek Christmas Dinner

It’s Christmas in Greece and there is no better way to celebrate than with a beautifully designed dinner party. As with any Greek tradition, the essential elements will include a joyful gathering of family and friends and a table full of delicious dishes that have been passed from generation to generation. These simple guidelines will help you create the perfect Greek Christmas dinner atmosphere!

Decorate A Christmas Boat (Karavaki)

Greek tradition involves decorating a sailboat instead of a tree for Christmas. This quintessential tradition originates from the Greek islands and symbolizes sailing towards the new life that follows the birth of Christ. It also serves as a token of gratitude to the sailors who have devoted their lives to the sea, representing their successful return home.

To achieve this traditional look all you need to do is find a small wooden boat, place it on a table top and then string fairy lights along its edges and even decorate it with beautiful ornaments. This symbolic and very Greek Christmas decoration will surely add warmth to your party.

Bring Nature Indoors & To Your Dinner Table

To add a touch of rustic elegance to your Christmas dinner table, find some pine cones and scatter them around white pillar candles for an elegant and wintery look. Fold a napkin into a boat shape to match your Christmas Boat decoration and voila, you have a fabulous yet traditional tablescape!

3. Christmas Treats & Dessert Bar

Baked treats of all kinds are absolutely necessary for Greek Christmas celebrations! These traditional, sweet-smelling desserts remind us of warm memories and will definitely be a hit among your guests, so be sure to make (or order) a large batch. Apart from being delicious in taste, some of the Greek Christmas desserts are so elaborate and beautiful that they’ll add to your décor! Start with baking a Chistopsomo or “Christ’s Bread,” a specialty bread made of flour, sesame seeds, and spices, including anise, orange, cloves, and cinnamon, to serve on Christmas Eve.

Another traditional baked good is Stravropsomo, which is a fruit-filled loaf decorated with the sign of the cross. During the Christmas period, the most popular desserts are undoubtedly diples, kourabiedes, kataifi, melomakarona, and baklava. Prepared with high-quality local ingredients including honey, cinnamon, phyllo pastry, and nuts, these holiday pastry delights will definitely satisfy your guests’ sweet tooth!

4. Festive Drinks

A Christmas dinner party isn’t complete without a drink or two! For a traditional Greek Christmas drink, try warm wine infused with orange and cinnamon, or oinomelo, a Greek alternative to mulled wine which is simply warm wine with honey. These enticing festive drinks will definitely keep your guests warm and their spirits high!

If we’ve inspired you to add a unique Greek flavor to your Christmas dinner, we’d love to take the stress out of planning the perfect dinner party. Get in touch and we’ll make sure that your dinner party will be truly exceptional!

Your Halloween Party Guide

Your Halloween Party Guide

Your Halloween Party Guide

The tradition of Halloween and dressing up in costume to offer tricks and treats hasn’t always been a popular thing to do in Greece. And actually, the most common time of year for Greeks to dress-up in costume is during carnival which happens in prelude to Orthodox Easter traditions that take place in early spring.

Since the fun of All Hallows Eve has slowly crept into the festivities calendar for many of us who live in Greece, we couldn’t help but want to share our ideas on how to plan the perfect Halloween party in Athens. Here are 5 tips to get your party planning happening this Halloween:

Tip #1
Scary Music & Entertainment

When your guests arrive, be sure to have the appropriate music playing to set the mood – this is what will create the perfect party atmosphere from the get-go! Try some creepy Gothic sounds to set an eerie mood for the night. If you need a conversation starter, how about asking all your guests about one of their most terrifying experiences!?

Tip #2
Themed Cocktails

Whether you’re planning villa party or a beach party, having themed cocktails is a definite must, but especially for a Halloween party! One of our favorites is a red and orange colored ‘blood’ Smokey Cosmopolitan cocktail served to everyone as a welcome drink – it’s the perfect addition to the already creepy atmosphere.

Tip #3
Spooky but Stylish Table Decor

Place settings and table decorations can really bring your Halloween party together and create a beautiful visual. It’s all in the details after all! Dark red flowers, flickering candles and deep orange pumpkins are ideal for the mood of the night. Lay your table with black tulle together with a black net table runner and place some elegant silver trays in the centre. Another idea is to place the red or purple flowers and candles on the silver tray to create the perfect centrepiece. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even partly spray paint your flowers black! As a final touch, place a few candelabras between the centrepieces to make your space look like a haunted mansion. If you like, you can also make place tags so your guests know where to sit; write everyone’s name on a picture of a skull – pink for the ladies and black for the men.

Tip #4
Halloween Cheese Platter & Dessert Bar

A great way to subtly impress your guests is to cut your cheese in the shape of coffins and decorate a platter just like a graveyard – this will surely spook your guests each time they come in for a bite! It’s not Halloween without lots of sugar and sweets so a fun (and mandatory) addition to your party is a dessert and candy bar. Have some cookies in the shapes of bats and skulls, decorate cupcakes like ghosts, and have cake pops that look like bulging eyeballs. Set up your candy bar with the other desserts for an all-in-one delicious dessert bar.

Tip #5
Dress To Impress

And last, but definitely not least, your party isn’t a real Halloween event unless everyone is dressed in costume. Be sure to inform all of your guests that this is a ‘costume only’ party and that the best dressed will win a special token gift so that they’re remembered for their creative and stylish costume!

Now you’re ready to party – have a ton of fun!!

With all these great ideas floating around in your mind ~ get in touch with us and we’ll take out the stress out of planning your next big event.

Spring Inspiration For An Exotic Garden Lunch Party

Spring Inspiration For An Exotic Garden Lunch Party

Spring Inspiration For An Exotic Garden Lunch Party

The spring sunshine feels oh so wonderful after the cold of winter, and warm afternoons with a cool breeze are just perfect for entertaining guests outdoors! With spring flowers in bloom, take advantage of the beautiful scents and natural environment, and invite your friends to an exotic garden luncheon party. From where to host your outdoor event in Greece, design and decor, and what to have on the menu, here’s some springspiration on how to throw the best exotic garden luncheon!

Choose An Outdoor Venue

Spring is the perfect time to head outdoors and enjoy the season’s mild temperatures and colorful flowers. For your exotic garden luncheon party, you’ll want to choose an outdoor venue with lots of colorful flowers and greenery! Finding outdoor venues in Greece by the beach is pretty common, but finding beautiful and green outdoor space isn’t the easiest to come by; as experts in finding the top event venues in Greece, we’d recommend choosing a wonderful garden space with a wooden gazebo – this offers a perfect focal point for your guests to gather. Make sure the gazebo has lots of greenery and plants surrounding it to give your party an authentic exotic atmosphere. Additionally, having a gazebo gives you the option of having some shade and shelter, just in case the sun gets too warm or if there’s an afternoon rain shower.

Keep The Event Styling Natural

Since your exotic garden luncheon party will take place outdoors with plenty of fresh greenery and vibrant, colorful flowers such as Birds of Paradise and Sunset Valley Orchids, keep the event styling and design simple and natural by using elements from your environment for your decor. Of course you’ll want to add a few personalized touches, like a few bamboo puff cushions on the grass so your guests can lounge in the garden by the gazebo. To decorate the gazebo, where your guests will enjoy lunch, use a glass table, along with plates, napkins, glasses to suit the theme and Lotus flower shaped candles to complete the table décor with exotic flair. As a centerpiece, use a bamboo wicker basket to match the exotic environment and fill it up with your favorite succulent plants which is the latest trend! We’d take it one step further and individually personalize each succulent plant with our guest’s name and include them as a place setting accompanied with a dusty pink tied napkin. We always love having printed menus ready beforehand to add to our table decor and to give our guests some anticipation of what’s coming next, so on the main plate we have placed the menu to prepare your taste buds!

Finally, for the color scheme, stick to neutrals like beige, gray, and greens that compliment perfectly with the surrounding natural environment. Just like on an exotic and tropical island – keep it simple, fresh, and natural.

What’s On The Menu?

Since your exotic garden party will take place outdoors, and you won’t have access to a kitchen, you’ll need to plan and prepare all of your custom menu items ahead of time.

To make things easier, select a menu that has a lot of fresh and seasonal ingredients. The first course can be a freshly tossed salad with seasonal vegetables, mixed greens and a fresh Dill vinaigrette. For your main dishes, a great recommendation is to serve fresh fish, a light and creamy pasta dish, together with a savory steak. For dessert, try a mix of chocolate and pistachio ice cream with fresh berries which will surely win over all of your guests. Because you’ll prepare all of your dishes ahead of time, don’t forget to have the proper containers to keep everything fresh while outdoors and of course the appropriate cooler packs so that all of your refreshing beverages are perfectly chilled.

With your party essentials in tow, it’s time to have a good time!

Let us bring your next event in Greece to life! Get in touch with us and we’ll be happy to take the stress out of planning your next social gathering. We take care of all of the details so you and your guests can relax and fully enjoy yourselves.
