In the following interview – Between Words – I share reflections on where it all began, from my time at Institut Villa Pierrefeu in Montreux, a renowned finishing school where a deep appreciation for refinement, detail, and the art of hosting was first formed, to how those early lessons continue to influence every celebration I design today. As we celebrate 10 years of MILI LO, this conversation is an opportunity to reflect on the journey, the inspirations, and the experiences that have shaped the brand, and the philosophy behind MILI LO, and the personality behind the brand itself, as seen through my eyes as its founder, Emily Logothetis.

You attended our school 18 years ago. Is there anything you learned here that you still use?

Oh, there’s so much I learned at IVP that I still use today, from the Art de la Table and the subtle details of setting a table, to Floral Design, Hosting Etiquette, and the nuances of fine entertainment. I feel incredibly fortunate that this experience provided such a strong foundation, and these lessons continue to shape not just my approach, but the elevated, memorable experiences I create for my clients.

Was there a moment during your studies when you thought ”This is what I want to do”?

Yes! That moment came when I was encouraged to explore Event Planning just after my exams. As I excelled in classes that fell under this field, without even realising it existed, I discovered a real passion for it. I was thrilled to learn more, and that’s when I knew my academic and professional future lay in Event Planning and it’s been blooming ever since.

How did you go from student to successful Event Planner?

I gained experience across different areas of the industry from working in a well-established floral firm, the banqueting and catering departments of luxury hotels to local event planning companies. This gave me hands-on insight into planning, designing, and executing bespoke events from early on. But the most valuable lessons came when I started my own business, where I could bring together everything I had learned at IVP and through my Event Planning Management course, and adding that extra touch that makes all the difference, to create truly seamless, elevated experiences for my clients.

How would you describe what you do to someone who has never hired an Event Planner? 

We design and bring to life fully personalized events, taking care of every detail from start to finish so our clients don’t have to worry about anything. That means we help shape the initial idea, find the perfect setting, coordinate all the right vendors, and thoughtfully style each element so everything feels cohesive and elevated. Behind the scenes, we manage the timing, logistics, and flow of the event to ensure everything runs seamlessly. In simple terms, we turn a vision into a beautifully executed experience, so our clients can be fully present and enjoy the moment, knowing everything has been carefully handled for them.

What does a truly well-run event feel like to the guests, and how do you create that? 

A truly well-run event is one where every detail is intentional, all vendors are coordinated and the day unfolds seamlessly for the guests. I always put myself in the shoes of the hostess, ensuring everything feels perfect because the ultimate measure of success is the guest experience. This focus on detail and thoughtful execution is something I first learned at IVP.

What’s the one detail most people overlook? 

To me, the one detail most people overlook is really the timeline and flow. People often focus on how things look, but the magic is in how the event is orchestrated – both behind the scenes during setup and throughout the event. How each moment connects and transitions is what makes the whole experience feel effortless and truly memorable.

What’s been your most memorable event, and why?

My most memorable event(s) was a 2-day ultra-luxury 40th birthday celebration in 2025 in Corfu. The first event was the main one with a very creative vision. It was also one of the most challenging events I’ve ever planned as it entailed a new destination, unfamiliar vendors, and a tight timeline of just two and a half months. The concept was unique and extravagant, and despite the high stakes, we delivered flawlessly. The creativity, teamwork, and joy of seeing it all come together made it an unforgettable experience for the clients, guests and our team. It was an event everyone will remember for a long time.

What do you wish someone had told you at the start of your career? 

I wish someone had told me how challenging it is to sell experiences that can’t be touched or measured. To truly convey the value of a seamless, curated event while navigating different personalities and unexpected situations along the way. It isn’t always easy, but those very challenges taught me how to translate a vision into something tangible, flawless, and truly unforgettable.

For a shy person who wants to work in a people-facing industry – what would you say to them? 

I would say that in client and people-facing industries – empathy, observation, and thoughtfulness matter more than being outgoing. Shy people often notice details others miss and are naturally great listeners. Being shy doesn’t have to hold you back. Listening carefully, observing, and preparing in advance are just as valuable as speaking confidently. Over time, experience builds natural confidence, and a prepared, attentive, and genuine person can create deeper connections than someone who’s just talkative. I believe your authenticity can become your greatest strength.

What does success look like to you now versus when you were starting out?

When I started out, success felt like simply delivering an event without mistakes and making sure everything ran smoothly and clients were satisfied. Now, success is about creating experiences that leave a lasting impression, reflect the client’s personality, and feel effortless and elevated. It’s about the impact, the emotions, and the memories, not just logistics.

If a prospective student is watching this right now and is curious about Event Planning – what would you say to them?

I would say to them that Event Planning is not only about organising. It’s about creating moments people will remember forever. It can be challenging, but if you love creativity, attention to detail, and connecting with people, it’s an incredibly rewarding career where you get to bring dreams to life.

From learning how to set a table with care to understanding how subtle touches in different cultures create lasting impressions, I began to see hospitality in a completely new way. It wasn’t just about aesthetics – it was about how an experience makes people feel seen, valued, and connected.

Growing up in an environment of home entertaining, I had always noticed the small things: the mood of a space, the emotions of the people within it, the whimsical yet artful details that make a moment exceptional. Etiquette gave that sensitivity a framework, allowing me to transform instinct into something polished, tailored, and uniquely refined. This approach – putting ourselves in our clients’ shoes – became the foundation of MILI LO.

Years later, that early inspiration evolved into MILI LO, a brand devoted to crafting impactful, bespoke moments. From luxury proposals to intimate weddings, every experience we design is guided by a personalized approach, ensuring it feels elevated, artful, and timeless.

Less than twelve hours later, the celebration continued with a premium Tropicana-themed pool party. Guests reveled in sun-soaked luxury, surrounded by bespoke installations, lush exotic florals, and high-energy entertainment hosted by an internationally celebrated radio personality.

Brought to life flawlessly in just under two months, this two-day ultra-luxury Fourchella/Tropicana celebration was nothing short of legendary, an immersive journey where endless fun met meticulous craftsmanship. Every detail was thoughtfully designed, every moment imbued with sophistication, and every experience curated to reflect the vision of the birthday guests.
