A Chic & Affordable Baptism in Greece

It was a joyous day in late September when parents Natasa and Valantis held their son Achillea’s baptism in Athens. Their request was for simplicity and authenticity.

The inspiration and main element for Achillea’s traditional Greek baptism was a gent’s bow tie in baby blue. To announce the baptism, we created a modern tuxedo designed invitation, and this theme was also used for the handmade traditional bonbonnieres – little blue bow tie-shaped soaps playfully tied onto paper boxes.

For the décor, we arranged blue and white roses in glass vases, and placed blue hydrangeas on the steps leading up to the main entrance of the traditional Greek Orthodox church in Athens. In order to stay within the requested budget, we later used these as the table centerpieces at the venue. Inside the church, the traditional ‘kolibithra’ (or baptismal font) was decorated with baby blue hydrangea flowers at each end, and strips of fine linen in different shades of blue were elegantly draped across.

The ceremony was followed by an authentic Greek baptism reception at a modern tavern, where we creatively decorated the tables and lovely candy bar. This chic and affordable baptism in Greece was full of joy and happiness for baby Achilleas and his family!
